Rajnath Singh condemns Assam militant attack, assures Centre assistance

The Centre is monitoring the situation in Assam and the paramilitary forces have been rushed to the spot, tweeted Singh

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh condemned the killing of innocents of by the banned outfit National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) in Kokrajhar and Sonitpur districts of Assam.

Singh took to twitter for expressing his concerns.

"I strongly condemn the killing of tribals in Assam by NDFB militants. Killing innocent people for any cause can never be justified," Singh tweeted.

"The Centre is monitoring the situation in Assam and the paramilitary forces have been rushed to the spot," he added.

Singh also assured of Centre providing all the assistance to the affected state.

"Spoke to Assam CM Shri Tarun Gogoi who apprised me of the situation in Kokrajhar and Sonitpur. Centre will provide all assistance to the state," he said in a series of tweets.

 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also condemned the attack by calling it an act of cowardice.

33 people were killed on Tuesday evening in attacks by NDFB in Kokrajhar and Sonitpur districts of Assam, following which indefinite curfew has been imposed in five police station areas of Sonitpur district.

According to reports, the State Home department has instructed the administration of all the districts to remain alert.

The world heritage site, Manas National Park has also been closed for three days in a bid to intensify operation against militants.
