Raksha Bandhan being celebrated across nation

The festival of Raksha Bandhan, which celebrates the bond between brothers and sisters, is being celebrated across the country today.

Sisters, on this occasion, tie a thread around their brother's wrist as a symbol of their love and in turn the brother pledges to protect his sister.

President Pranab Mukherjee and Vice President Hamid Ansari have greeted the people on the occasion.

In a message, President Mukherjee said thread of Rakhi binds sisters and brothers in an inseparable bond of love and trust.

He said, this festival underlines the need for enhancing efforts for the welfare of women and for all men to do their utmost to ensure the safety and security of women in society.

 

Vice President Hamid Ansari said Raksha Bandhan reaffirms the strong bond of love and affection between brothers and sisters.

He said the festival also underscores the high place traditionally accorded to women in our society.
