Ram Rahim verdict ruckus: Sonia Gandhi appeals to maintain peace, harmony

The Congress President, Sonia Gandhi on Friday expressed grave concern and shock at the unabated violence in Panchkula and other parts of Haryana resulting in the death of over two dozen people, including children, widespread destruction of public property and senseless attack on the media post the conviction of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in connection with a rape case.

Sonia appealed to everyone to maintain peace and harmony. She also spoke to Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and asked the government of Haryana and Chandigarh to ensure safety and security of all citizens.

Meanwhile, Senior Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi asserted on the current ruckus in Haryana stating that the country should respect the court's decision.

 

"What Haryana is witnessing today has many facets; first is that our country is a proud Republic and in this law and order, judiciary is the paramount aspects. Whatever the decisions are, whether you agree or disagree should be accepted by all. The country should respect one decision," he said.

Following are the updates related to the case:
