Officials of Jharkhand Armed Police (JAP) force in Ranchi sacrificed 100 goats and worshipped their weapons to appease goddess Durga during Navratri.
In Jharkhand, police personnel worshipped weapons as they consider weapon part of their bodies.
They also believe that by sacrificing animals, gods will protect their family from evil.
"This ritual is being practiced since 1880 and we have been following it till now. The sacrifice is followed by worship young girls and arms worship," said a retired policeman M.B. Gurung.
"We worship arms on eighth and ninth day of Navratri as our brothers, fathers and husbands go out and these weapons protect them," a devotee Ragini Shresht added.
