Criticising the rape case filed against Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) leader Harak Singh Rawat, Congress on Saturday said the matter should be investigated and if the MLA is found to be guilty, then he should be strictly punished.
"If a woman registers a case against any MP or MLA, then that matter should be investigated thoroughly and if found guilty, the person should be punished. Especially, if any public representative is involved then he should be more strictly punished,' Congress leader Sobha Oza told ANI.
A woman filed a case against Rawat at the Safdarjung Enclave Police Station last night.
A similar complaint was registered against him two years ago.
Earlier in February 2014, an FIR was registered against Rawat for allegedly molesting a 30-year-old woman in New Delhi.
The woman, who was a resident of Meerut had submitted a written complaint at Safdarjung Enclave Police Station alleging that he had molested her at a house in South Delhi's Green Park area in September 2013.
Although the woman could not explain the delay in reporting the case, police had registered an FIR in that regard.
