The Congress party on Monday vowed to fight the Centre's Real Estate Bill in the Parliament as well as on the streets, terming the legislation an 'emotional issue' for India.

"This is a very serious emotive issue. This is not only about Delhi and the NCR; it is about an all-India phenomenon. The builders are fleecing the general public and the government, with the Real Estate Bill, is trying to support them. For us, this is an emotional issue and concerns the citizens across the country, the middle class, the lower middle class and every section of society," Congress leader Tom Vadakkan told ANI.

"We'll take it to the streets, to the Parliament and we will fight it to the logical end," he added.

Facing a crunch of numbers in the Rajya Sabha, the Centre this week was forced to defer the Bill after the opposition insisted on it being referred to a select committee of Parliament.

The Bill is crucial for paving the way for construction of a large number of affordable houses the BJP-led NDA government has promised houses for all by 2022.
