Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Virat Kohli has added another feather in his cap by becoming the first batsman in the history of Indian Premier League (IPL) to reach 4000-run milestone.

The prolific Indian batman became the tournament's highest ever run scorer after smashing an unprecedented fourth century of the season during his side's 82-run win by Duckworth-Lewis method over Kings XI Punjab at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Opting to bat first, Kohli smashed 12 boundaries and eight sixes in his blistering 113-run knock and shared a huge 147-run partnership with opener Chris Gayle to help their side post a huge target of 211 runs for three in the match, which was cut to 15 overs a side due to rain.

In reply, Kings XI Punjab were bundled out for 120 runs in 14 overs.

With the achievement, Kohli (4002) has surpassed Indian team-mate Suresh Raina's tally of 3,985 runs in the tournament's nine-year history, Sport24 reported.

Kohli, who also became the first batsman to score four tons in a single T20 season, said that he was not sure to score a century in 15 overs, adding that he was shocked to achieve that.

Earlier, the 27-year-old also became the highest run-getter in a single IPL season. He notched up a total of 865 runs in the 13 games he has played so far.

Kohli (109) and De Villiers (129) also recorded the highest partnership (229) in Twenty20 cricket history during their whooping 144-run win over Gujarat Lions on Saturday.

Royal Challengers are currently standing second in the point table, having seven wins from 13 games they have played. Kohli's side will next lock horns with Delhi Daredevils at the Rajkumar College Ground in Chhattisgarh on Sunday.
