Reddit is reportedly planning to offer embeds for breaking news threads, that could help news organizations to make use of live blogs of newsworthy events.
General manager of Reddit, Erik Martin, said that embeds would allow blogs and news organizations repackage the live reporting feature that the news website introduced in beta last month.
According to Mashable, unlike with self-post or comment based live updates, there wont be limits to how many updates could be posted during the course of an event.
The site said that the 'Liveupdate' streams exist outside of subreddits and are designed to be submitted like any other link to whatever (multiple) subreddits are relevant to the stream.
Currently, Reddit employees could create the streams and add reporters to them and the site aims to add anyone to be able to create a stream.
The report said that Reddit started live updates with Twitch Plays Pokemon, a social media experiment in which thousands of people tried to play Pokemon in real time, apart from a recent experiment surrounding the Ukraine-Russia conflict.
Martin said that there are more than 20 live updates, and these efforts were 'alpha and raw,' but down the road, they could become a very useful tool for journalists and publishers to use on their sites, the report added.
