The iconic Regal cinema located in Connaught Place in New Delhi, is set to house the city's first Madame Tussauds wax museum.
The heritage building will soon be turned into a multiplex.
According to sources, the first floor of the building from where the once-popular Standard Restaurant ran would be Delhi's first Madame Tussauds museum.
The museum is likely to be set up in central Delhi by 2017.
Earlier, in January, Wizcraft Entertainment International, the Indian partner of Madame Tussauds had written to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal requesting for his consent installing his waxwork figure at the museum, which the Chief Minister has accepted.
The popular museum, that has its presence across 21 cities in four continents - America, Europe, Asia and Australia, recently announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will join the league of world leaders to have his wax replica at its London, Singapore, Hong Kong and Bangkok facilities.
The iconic building was designed by Walter Sykes George and had come up in 1932. Regal was once the most popular cinema hall in the capital and was frequented among others, by India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, Lord Mountbatten and Indira Gandhi.
Until Independence, it was also visited by British bureaucrats. In later years, the hall hosted major film premieres. But Regal has fallen on tough times in the past decade or so.
