AnandTech, the online computer hardware magazine, founder Anand Lal Shimpi revealed that he is retiring from technology journalism to join Apple Inc.

An Apple representative has confirmed the hire for Recode, though there's predictably little information to go on beyond the fact that one of tech journalism's most authoritative figures has joined one of the industry's true giants, The Verge reported.

Shimpi has previously done consulting work and collaborated with hardware manufacturers on identifying and rectifying issues with components like solid state drives. He was also the driving force behind AnandTech's push to name and shame smartphone manufacturers that artificially enhanced their devices' performance in popular benchmarks, report said.

Now at Apple, he's most likely to remain focused on the intricacies of device engineering, though his deep industry connections may also help enhance the company's already extraordinary supply chain.
