Republicans and Democrats differ even while naming their children

Republicans and Democrats are not only divided on the kinds of TV shows they watch, cars they drive and beers they drink but also the names that they give to their babies.

To understand whether Democrats and Republicans choose different kinds of baby names, University of Chicago researchers Eric Oliver, Thomas Wood and Alexandra Bass compiled an unusual set of data, Japan Times reported.

Oliver and his colleagues argued that liberals, consciously or unconsciously, signal cultural tastes and erudition when they pick their child's moniker.

On the other hand, conservatives are more likely than liberals to pick popular or traditional names (like John, Richard, or Katherine), signal economic capital.
