The Rajasthan Government and the Gujjar leaders reached an agreement today over the issue of five percent reservation in government jobs as demanded by the community.

Rajendra Singh Rathore, who was one of the members of Cabinet Sub Committee from the government's side, said that a consensus has been developed between both parties.

"Both Gujjar delegation and state government have agreed upon eight points...A draft has been formulated regarding five percent reservation for other backward classes and has been approved by the Rajasthan Cabinet. The draft will be introduced in upcoming Rajasthan Assembly session as ordinance and will be passed," said Rathore.

"The ordinance passed in Rajasthan Assembly will then be officially sent to Central Government and will be included in ninth schedule," he added.

Gujjar leader Colonel Kirodi Singh Bainsla, who took part in the meeting, expressed his delight and said the struggle has finally reached a point.

From the government's side, members of Cabinet Sub Committee Rajendra Singh Rathore, Hem Singh Bhadana and Arun Chaturvedi along with some senior officials participated in the discussions.

Taking a strong view of the case, the Rajasthan High Court had earlier directed the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police to get the rail track and highways cleared of Gujjar agitators and file an affidavit to this effect in the court on Friday.
