A rights group has accused the Libyan government of torturing and ill-treating prisoners in the eastern regions of the country.
According to News24.com, Human Rights Watch (HRW) has alleged in a statement that the Libyan government and its allied forces are responsible for arbitrary mass detentions, torture and ill treatments
of prisoners.
The New York-based watchdog said it had obtained access to jails at Bayda and Benghazi, currently in the hands of forces loyal to Libya's globally recognised administration.
HRW said that detainees had claimed that they were forced to confess to crimes under torture and described other abuses including lack of medical care.
