Robert Redford is set to star as Dan Rather in the upcoming political drama 'Truth', which also stars Cate Blanchett.
The film, which will see screenwriter James Vanderbilt make his directorial debut, is based on the 2005 published memoir 'Truth and Duty: The Press, the President, and the Privilege of Power' by Mary Mapes, the Hollywood Reporter reported.
The book focuses on the September 2004 firestorm that took place post Rather stated that George W. Bush had received special treatment during the Vietnam War while he was a part of the Air National Guard. But the documents, on which the claims were made, turned out to be forgeries.
Blanchett would portray Mapes in the movie, for which James Vanderbilt and White House Down will adapt the screenplay, and the project is being produced by Mythology Entertainment along with Brad Fischer, William Sherak, Vanderbilt and Mikkel Bondesen.
Redford, 77, was most recently seen in 2013's 'All Is Lost', where he was the sole cast member, and 2014's 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
