Nek Chand, who attained worldwide fame as the creator of the unique Rock Garden in Chandigarh, passed away due to a cardiac arrest at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER). He was 90-years old.
Chand, who was suffering from diabetes and hypertension, was admitted to PGIMER on Thursday afternoon after he complained of cardiac distress.
As per reports, his body will be kept in the Rock Garden today for the people to pay tributes to the artist. His cremation is scheduled to take place on Saturday.
Chand was conferred with the Padma Shri in 1984 for his contribution to art.
His creations were mostly made out of waste materials like broken bangles, cutlery, chinaware, electrical fittings like switches, plugs and tube-lights, household junk, stones, building material waste and other such things.
