ANI Rohtak (Haryana)

With the Rohtak gang-rape case taking a new turn post the arrest of a man not named by the victim, the family members of the girl today cried foul stating that they are not receiving any cooperation from the police.

The victim's cousin told ANI that the accused attempted to bribe them and imposed pressure on them to withdraw the case.

"We now feel it is very difficult for the poor in this country to get justice," he said.

The victim's cousin further said the cops are not investigating the accused, adding they have rather arrested two boys who are not at all involved in this case.

"The police is not supporting us. They are examining my sister in the manner in which the criminals are examined," he added.

He further said that the doctor, who examined his sister, was not trained.

"The doctor accepted that she has not carried this type of examination earlier," he said.

Rohtak Superintendent of Police Pushpa Khatri, however, said they are carrying out the investigation, adding all accused are presently in judicial custody.

"The investigation is being carried out. All five accused arrested till now are in judicial custody and FSL (Forensic Science Laboratory) reports are still pending," she said.

The victim, a college student, was allegedly raped by five persons in Rohtak district on July 13. This is said to be a repeat offence on the woman with two of the accused also involved in the first case of gang-rape three years ago in Bhiwani.

According to the police, the victim was found lying in an inebriated condition near Sukhpura Chowk in Rohtak on July 13.

On July 14, a case was registered at a women's police station under various Sections of the IPC and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act against the five men for kidnapping and gang-rape on the basis of the 21-year-old girl's statement.
