Lawyer and women's rights activist Abha Singh today demanded the death penalty for Lokesh Dayal and his two associates, who are accused of driving two minor girls in Rohtak to commit suicide.
Abha Singh told ANI, "There is a specific section of 305 IPC which states that abetting a minor girl to commit suicide calls in for a death penalty. I want that those boys who have troubled these girls for so long. They stalked them, harassed them and compelled them to take this extreme step and should be awarded death penalty under section 305. This is essential because the message should spread across the country that similar acts will not be tolerated".
Lokesh Dayal was arrested on Tuesday on charges of reportedly harassing two girls, aged 16 and 17 years respectively, everyday on their way to a coaching academy. His two associates, however, are yet to be traced.
Following the harassment, the girls reportedly decided to consume cold drinks laced with poison to end their lives.
Police said that they had recovered two suicide notes, which mentioned a specific incident where they stated that a particular man used to follow them and disturb them every day, which is why they were compelled to take their lives.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Karan Goyal, said, "The post mortem reports are yet to come. Primary investigation reveals that the girls had taken poison. We have recovered two suicide notes. There it has been mentioned about a specific incident where in which they stated that a particular man used to follow them and disturb them every day and that is why they were compelled to take this extreme step. That particular man has been arrested yesterday evening".
Sukhvir Singh, the father of one of the victims, said, "My daughter was very intelligent. I got a call from the academy. I went there and took my child to the hospital. She was being treated there for some time after which she passed away."
Meanwhile, Ranjana Kumari, Director, Centre for Social Research appealed to all the girls to take the help of law in such cases.
"I will just tell the girls of our country that please do not give up. Suicide is not a way but one should take the help of the law to teach these people a lesson." said Kumari.
