Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Sunday said the rollback of Land Acquisition Ordinance by Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government is a victory for the members of the farming community.
Addressing the 'Kisan Samman Rally' at Ramlila Ground here, Gandhi reminded the people that Prime Minister Modi had during the campaigning for the 2014 Lok Sabha promised the electorates that he would end the Land Bill after coming to power at the Centre.
"He brought the Land Ordinance thrice and in the end he expressed his "Maan ki Baat'. He said few days back that the Ordinance will lapse and he will not end the Congress' Land Bill. This is no doubt the victory of Congress Party but before that it's a win for the farmers," he said.
Gandhi reiterated that Prime Minister Modi is snatching a farmer's mother in the form of his land.
"A farmer has two mothers-his own mother and his land. Modi is snatching farmer's mother. This is not the fight of the land of the farmers, this is the fight for honour and respect of the farmers," he said.
