Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney believes that Sir Alex Ferguson still has influence at Manchester United, and that is a fundamental reason to why the player wants to leave the club.

According to The Guardian, Rooney has a perception that the former manager will be among the loudest voices at United, despite retiring as manager last season.

The report said that although Moyes insists he wants the unsettled Rooney to stay at Old Trafford and is not for sale, the 27-year-old remains intent on leaving, with his relationship with Ferguson breaking down during the final season of the Scot's tenure.

Rooney also suggested that if he would continue to be played out of position and not be selected for United's major games, he might seek a move, the report added.
