England striker Wayne Rooney has said that he is relieved after knowing that former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has clarified in his autobiography that he did not formally hand in a transfer request, the alleged reason for their rift.

According to the Mirror, Rooney expressed that Ferguson had his own opinion and thankfully, he came back and corrected the story that he put in a transfer request.

Rooney continued his fine start to the season on Wednesday, playing a starring role as United saw off Real Sociedad in the Champions League, the report said.

Afterwards, the England striker also seized victory in his feud with Fergie after his former boss confirmed he didn't hand in a transfer request last season, the report added.

The former Old Trafford chief claimed the striker had asked to leave the club last season, which Rooney always denied, the report further said.

However, in interviews to promote his autobiography, the Old Trafford legend, while still maintaining Rooney 'wanted away', he admitted no transfer request was formally submitted, according to the report.
