Manchester United skipper Wayne Rooney has insisted he wants to emulate former player Paul Scholes as he is ready to adapt to a midfield role on a permanent basis.
Jubilant after being switched from a striker, Rooney said that he had played as the midfielder in the past and, therefore, expressed his confidence of playing well at that position, the Mirror reported.
The 30-year-old said he had always watched Scholes playing, knowing that he would surely play as the midfielder one day.
Rooney, however, insisted he is still in the early stages and he hopes to get better with each passing game.
Earlier, Rooney had led United to the FA Cup finals after the club claimed a 2-1 win over Everton at the Wembley Stadium. The team will play against Crystal Palace in the finals on May 21.
