Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has reportedly been ruled out for the rest of the season with a toe injury.

Rooney, who recently signed on a new 300,000 pounds-a-week deal at Old Trafford, is currently suffering with a chipped bone in his toe.

According to Metro.co.uk, although United has just five matches left in their season, but boss David Moyes was hopeful of having a full-strength team to pick from in order to build momentum for next term.

It is yet unclear as to how Rooney's availability for the World Cup will be influenced by the injury, but the report claims that United doctors are hopeful he will be back in time to feature for England in Brazil.
