England batsman Joe Root has backed out-of-form skipper Eoin Morgan, describing him as a fine leader who is looking forward to shine in the upcoming World Cup opener against Australia on Saturday in Melbourne.
Despite hitting a ton against Australia in the Tri-series, Morgan struggled to carry forward the form in his last four innings as he could only score two runs.
Backing the team leader, Root said that Morgan was one of the guys that one turn to when the pressure was on and he had done it so many times for them, adding that he was sure the skipper would score a lot of runs in the competition, the BBC reported.
Calling Morgan as fine leader, the right-handed batsman further said that he scored a hundred not long ago and was looking forward to getting out there and putting on a show at Melbourne, the report added.
England will also play Afghanistan, Bangladesh, New Zealand, Scotland and Sri Lanka in Group A.
