Following the resignation of Rajasthan University Vice Chancellor Dev Swarup citing lack of co-operation from the state government, state Health Minister Rajendra Rathore said Tuesday that the former was indulging in cheap publicity .

"The government is unaware about on what conditions he had resigned and why. Since his tenure is nearing its end, hence, he is making such cheap publicity, which is not good for an educationist like him," Rathore told ANI here.

He added that the VC should have thought about the dignity of his office before making such statements.

"I understand that before giving such statement he should think of his dignity. We never blamed on the previous government about how the selection of Vice Chancellors were done. This is unfortunate to give such statements," said Rathore.

The state Health Minister also said that there were many allegations levelled against the VC's colleagues over his conduct but he would not dwell on it for now.

Rajasthan University Vice-Chancellor (VC) Dev Swarup's resignation was accepted by Rajasthan Governor Kalyan Singh on Monday. The former Rajasthan University VC blamed lack of co-operation from the state government for stepping down from his post.

He also alleged that the government appointed nominees on the varsity board were RSS pracharaks who were creating obstruction in the functioning of the university by not releasing the approved budget.
