Swedish director Roy Andersson has bagged Golden Lion best film award for his movie 'A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence' at 2014 Venice Film Festival.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the 71-year-old director asserted while accepting the award that he would keep trying to make great "humanistic" movies.

The project, which was hailed by critics for its intricate shots and quiet reflections on what it meant to be a human being, is the third in Andersson's 'Living' trilogy.

The Silver Lion for best director went to Andrej Koncalovskij for 'The Postman's White Nights'.
