Condemning the action initiated against Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat for raising the tricolour at a school in Kerala, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday said the "insecure" government of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had resorted to an undemocratic, unconstitutional and unwarranted step.

Speaking to ANI, BJP spokesperson GVL Narsimha Rao said, "I strongly condemn the decision of the LDF government to prevent the RSS chief shri Mohan Rao Bhagwat ji in unfurling the national flag at a school."

"He was doing in honour of the national flag and this is a sign of a respect for the nation. And for fascist government like the LDF to try and prevent this and issue a circular from a district collector is highly condemnable."

"We believe that the left front government in Kerala led by Pinarayi Vijayan had been so insecure about the growth of the RSS and the BJP in the state. And it has therefore resorted to undemocratic, unconstitutional and unwarranted step of trying to prevent the RSS chief. I think we condemn this in the strongest term possible," he added.

Bhagwat on Tuesday was detained from hoisting the national flag in Karnakkiyamman School here on the occasion of nation's 71st Independence Day.

The District collector issued a memo to the school in this regard, categorically stating that it was inappropriate for a political leader to hoist the national flag in an aided school.

He added that only a teacher or elected representative of the people was allowed to do so.
