ANI Moscow [Russia]

Moscow has expelled Estonian diplomats from Russia in response to Tallinn's expulsion of Russian diplomats from the country last week.

Sputnik news agency quoted the Russian Foreign Ministry as saying that Moscow declared Estonian Consul General in St. Petersburg and the Consulate General's Pskov chancellery head persona non grata.

As per reports, the expelled Estonian diplomats have been asked to leave Russia within five days.

The ministry further said that Estonia's decision to expel Russian diplomats will affect bilateral relations between the two countries and added that Tallinn is responsible for the consequences.

Estonian authorities had last week expelled five Russian diplomats from the country without citing any reasons.

The Russian Foreign Ministry had called the move "provocative and unjustified".
