Russia tops medals table with 9 golds as Sochi Games end

The Sochi Games came to a close on Sunday with host nation Russia topping the medals table with 9 golds.

The Winter Olympics concluded with an elaborate closing ceremony that ran nearly three hours.

According to Fox News, Russia was the unofficial 'winner' of the games, as it topped the medal count with 33 total medals, including 9 golds.

The United States placed second with 28 medals and Norway came third with 26 medals.

At the end of the ceremony, the Olympic flag was passed on to the mayor of Pyeongchang, South Korea, which will host the Games in 2018, the report added.
