The Lower House of the Russian Parliament (State Duma) on Tuesday adopted a law on criminal liability for employers over refusal to hire persons of the pre-retirement age.

The explanatory note points out that the law is aimed at reaching the target indicators of the Strategy for the Long-Term Development of the Pension System in line with the Russian pension legislation.

Citizens of pre-retirement age are people who are eligible to receive pension payments within five years of their current age. The law is adopted as part of the ongoing changes in the Russian pension legislation, which includes raising the retirement age from 60 to 65 years for men and from 55 to 60 years for women.
