New Zealand player Jesse Ryder has been ruled out of the Black Caps XI to face the West Indies after being injured during Otago's Plunket Shield match against Canterbury.
According to Stuff.co.nz, the former Black Cap was also struck on the finger when batting, an injury that was then aggravated later in the game while fielding in the slips.
While neither injury is serious, as a precaution Ryder was withdrawn from the tour opener in Lincoln, the report said.
Volts physio James Montgomery said that with it being so early in the season, the decision has been made to let Jesse rest and fully recover, which will give them the best opportunity of ensuring that neither injury develops into an ongoing concern, the report added.
Volts captain Derek de Boorder will replace Ryder in the NZ XI, according to the report.
