South African Tourism Minister Derek Hanekom on Thursday said that they are looking for an agreement with India to ensure hassle-free tourism.

Speaking to ANI, Hanekom said, "Major growth of tourism is hampered by visa requirements and direct flights. Looking at reintroducing direct flights and looking for an agreement in this space with India."

His statement comes in the backdrop of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to South Africa on the sidelines of BRICS summit.

"Kind of agreements signed at BRICS are very important for the world on whole. There are strong historical ties with India, many Indian-origin people in South Africa. Strengthening cultural and sporting ties between the two countries is important," Hanekom told ANI.

Hanekom further said that South Africa is looking for a MoU on tourism cooperation for all BRICS countries.

"We are looking for an MoU on tourism cooperation for all BRICS countries. If we need greater economic cooperation, we need to reduce the number of less-skilled people, need to get them work-ready and language skills also need improvement," he added.

Meanwhile, South African Finance Minister Nhlanhla Nene said that South Africa is working very well with India politically and economically.

Speaking to ANI, Nene said, "South Africa is working very well with India politically and economically. Indian investment in South Africa is significant, balanced trade relations, potential for trade is huge."

Both the ministers further said that South Africa will work together with India to counter terror threats.

The 10th BRICS Summit was held under the theme "BRICS in Africa: Collaboration for Inclusive Growth and Shared Prosperity in the fourth Industrial Revolution".

The three-day summit began yesterday with the BRICS Business Forum Meet.

On the related note, India signed MoUs in the fields of education, skill, health and agriculture with South Africa.
