Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) activists took to the streets here on Saturday to protest against Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat's remark that India is a Hindu nation.

"We protested against this through letters and speeches. But after that they (the RSS) said that in the upcoming time whatever small religion is there we will engulf them in the Hindu religion," said Paramjit Singh Sarna of Shiromani Akali Dal.

"So, this is a big attack on the Sikh religion and there is a saying in English that 'Nip in the Bud', so we have decided that before the RSS takes a step further we have come here to protest. And we are hopeful of the outcome of this protest that has been initiated by the Siromani Akali Dal. The entire Sikh community of Delhi has participated in it," he added.

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat had recently drew sharp criticism over his remark that India is a Hindu nation.

'Hindustan is a Hindu nation...Hindutva is the identity of our nation and it (Hinduism) can incorporate others (religions) in itself'," Bhagwat had said.
