Former Indian Hockey captain and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) MLA from Jalandhar Cantonment, Pargat Singh was allegedly assaulted by a drunk youth on Tuesday evening during an argument over 'parking' in Sector 9 in Chandigarh. Singh has sustained fractures in his fingers.
The accused, who has been identified as Kamaldeep, was arrested by the police after complaint by Singh. A case has been registered under Sections (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint) and 294 (doing obscene act in public place) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the accused.
"A drunk person parked his car on the road and I just requested him to give us a way. But when I again requested him to give the way, he abused me verbally by calling names and also attacked me. I also sustained fracture in my fingers," Singh told ANI.
The former Indian captain also said that action must be taken in this regard.
