Union Law and Justice Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda on Sunday paid tributes to Indian techie Prabha Arun Kumar, who was stabbed to death in Sydney on March 7.

"It's an eye opener. We need to rethink our external affair relations," Gowda said afterwards.

Kumar's body arrived in Bengaluru last night for last rites and would later today be taken to her native village Attur in Mangaluru for last rites.

Karnataka Home Minister KJ George and BJP leader Anant Kumar also paid their tributes to Kumar earlier in the day.

The Ministry of External Affairs had earlier assured that the Sydney police was pursuing Kumar's case 'very seriously', while also cautioning against labelling the attack as racist.

MEA spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said the Indian Consulate General in Sydney had requested New South Wales Premier Michael Baird to pursue the matter.

Kumar, a 41-year-old IT consultant, was stabbed to death near her house in Sydney while she was talking to her husband on the phone.
