The IG Meerut zone and DIG, Anti Terror Squad have said that the immediate priority in Saharanpur is to bring the situation under control.
Alok Sharma, Inspector General, Meerut Zone, told ANI, "There has been no incident of violence since yesterday night. Only some criminals tried to break a shop and they have been nabbed. After 3-4 pm yesterday, curfew has been imposed. Things are getting under control now. The process of identification of the main culprits has also picked up pace. We are trying to bring back things to normal, as soon as possible."
Deepak Ratan, DIG, Anti Terror Squad (ATS) also said that the focus was to not let the situation get any worse.
He said, "The situation is under the control of police. It's in 100 percent control. We have the focus that now the situation should not get worse. Media report analysis is being done to identify the people responsible. As of now, our focus is on controlling the situation of city. After that, we will see who all were responsible and actions will be taken against them."
On Saturday morning violent clashes had erupted in Saharanpur amongst two groups who reportedly clashed over a patch of disputed land close to the city's railway station. 25 people have reportedly been arrested after the clashes.
