Ace Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal is on the verge of creating history on Sunday as she became the first Indian to reach the final of the World Championship.

Second seed Saina set up the summit clash against defending champion and world number one Carolina Marin of Spain after claiming a straight set 21-17, 21-17 win over Indonesia's Lindaweni Fanetri on Saturday.

The match will be a repeat of this year's All England Championship final, where Saina lost the final against the Spaniard.

Prakash Padukone, the legendary shuttler, was the first Indian to win a bronze at the 1983 edition.

The duo of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa bagged a women's doubles bronze in 2011 and PV Sindhu followed the suit by claiming back-to-back bronze medals in 2013 and 2014.
