Salman Rushdie, who is known for his books namely 'Midnight's Children' and 'The Satanic Verses', has been named as the recipient of Pen Pinter prize this year.
The 67-year-old author said that it was very moving to win an award named after his friend Harold Pinter, the BBC reported.
The Indian Brit novelist asserted that the work of Pen, both in promoting the best of world literature and in opposing abuses of freedom, continued to be important.
Rushdie further said that he was proud to have been a part of that effort in England as well as the United States.
Rushdie will be presented with his prize at the British Library in London on 9th October, 2014.
