Sam Smith's vocal cord surgery has been successful and the singer is expected to recover fully.
In a statement released on the British artist's 23rd birthday, a surgeon confirmed the news about the singer, who was "nervous" before the "corrective voice surgery" at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Sky News has reported.
Earlier this year, doctors found bleeding in his throat, following which the four-time Grammy Award winner had to cancel several shows.
Dr Steven Zeitels, who operated on Smith in Boston, had performed the same procedure on other vocalists including Lionel Richie and Adele, both of whom made a full recovery with their singing abilities back to normal.
However, Smith, who recently sent the most adorable award acceptance speech at Billboard Music Awards using cue cards, explained via posts on Instagram that he would be unable to speak for three weeks after the operation.
The British artist is next scheduled to perform live on 18 July.
