Samsung posted a 25 percent decline in its operating profits in the second quarter of 2014 as smartphone competition increases in the market.

Samsung's operating profit was 6.99 billion dollars in the second quarter, reports CNET.

The company also said that the increasing competition had led to a decline in the prices of smartphone that further reduced the profits of the company.

The South Korean electronics giant said in a press release that the sales of mobile devices might increase but the company's growth prospects remain unclear.

Samsung's primary focus would be on new premium mobile devices and new flagship model along with models with low pricing and advanced features to meet the market demands.

Predictions were made earlier that Samsung would make weak profits.

The demand for tablets had slightly fallen while the overall demand for smartphones remained stagnant since the first quarter, said the company.
