The Warner Bros. movie took in more than five times as much as the 10 million dollars opening of Sony's Bradley Cooper and Emma Stone starrer romantic comedy 'Aloha', Deadline.com has reported.
The Brad Peyton directed movie received positive response by drawing 51 percent of females and 70 percent of over 25ers.
Dan Fellman, distribution chief of Warner Bros., said that Johnson was a major star of this American 3D disaster film.
The actor has made his biggest opening as a solo star till date with the film.
The movie triggers a magnitude 9 earthquake, a search-and-rescue operation by helicopter pilot, i.e. Johnson navigating the destruction from Los Angeles to San Francisco to save his daughter.
