Senior Sri Lankan batsman Kumar Sangakkara has said that the cancellation of the home three-match Test Series against South Africa has robbed Sri Lanka of the chance to impress ahead of the proposed ICC Test Championship scheduled for 2017.

According to The Daily Times, speaking at the end of the five match one-day series, which Sri Lanka won 4-1, Sangakkara expressed that the South Africans struggled against the Sri Lankan spinners and they could have won the series.

The South Africans, who had never won an ODI series in Sri Lanka since 1993, struggled so much in the sub-continent conditions that captain AB de Villiers could muster only 137 runs in the series, the report said.

Sangakkara said that Sri Lanka's Test specialists would also suffer because they would get only two months of cricket while being kept in cold storage 10 months a year.
