Sangli Police on Thursday detained four more persons for their role in the murder of former Communist Party of India (CPI) leader Govind Pansare.
A local court had yesterday sent Sameer Gaikwad, the fifth accused in the murder case, to seven-day police custody.
Gaikwad was earlier detained by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) in the Sangli region of Kohlapur District.
Pansare's family had earlier sought an SIT probe, alleging that Maharashtra Police had failed to make any progress in the investigation of the late CPI leader's murder.
Pansare and his wife were severely injured after unknown assailants fired upon while they were out for their morning walk in the Sagarmala area of Kolhapur city. Pansare succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
