Sania Mirza and Saketh Myneni win India's sixth gold in Incheon Asian Games

Sania Mirza and Saketh Myneni won India's sixth gold medal on Monday by beating Chinese Taipei's Hsien Yin Peng and Hao Ching Chan 6-4, 6-3 in Asian Games 2014 at Incheon.

Bouyed by the victory, Sania Mirza's father Imran Mirza said, "It is an amazing feeling, I am very happy that Sania and Saketh have achieved gold in Asian Games. At a time when Telengana state is celebrating, Sania and Saket have given enough reason for the state and the country to celebrate."

This is Sania's third consecutive Asian Games mixed doubles final appearance. She won gold with Leander Paes in 2006 followed by a silver medal in 2010 with Vishnu Vardhan.

 

Earlier today, discus-thrower Seema Punia won a gold medal in discus throw event with a distance of 61.03m.

With these two gold medals on Monday India has won six gold, 7 silver and 29 bronze medals. India is now placed ninth in the medals tally with a total of 42 medals.
