Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the re-constructed Assam house situated at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi Marg in New Delhi.
People from Assam and those residing in the national capital gathered to witness the ceremony which was held on Saturday.
Built at a cost of over Rs 50 crore, the Assam house comprises of 74 rooms including VVIP rooms, suits and, double bedded rooms.
The new Assam house will provide upgraded facilities to the natives of state who usually visit New Delhi for work or any other official purpose. Moreover, the new Assam house will highly cater to the need of the students, professionals, and patients of the state.
The architecturally rich Assam house is designed in such a way that it reflects the rich and colourful heritage of the state.
Cultural performance by a Bihu troupe from Assam and others formed an essential part of the inaugural ceremony.

Sonowal, while speaking to ANI, said: "This is a newly constructed building and it should be dedicated to the people of Assam with all modern facilities. I am thankful to all the offices and the builders', everybody has extended their sincere efforts, as a result, a beautiful structure has come out in the heart of the national capital. This is one of the biggest assets Assam and I believe people from all the sections will get benefit out of this house."
"The new Assam house has got five-star facilities; it has got 74 rooms and a very good conference room. For the students we have 7 dormitories, each dormitory has 5-6 beds. Lot of students and non-officials come to Delhi, I am sure that with this facility many of them will be benefited", added Niraj Verma, Resident Commissioner, Assam House.
When asked if any effective measure was taken to end the hooch tragedy in the state which took place recently as a result of consumption of spurious liquor, Sonowal said, "We are putting all our sincere efforts, honourable speaker along with the MLAs have visited the spot and we will take an action on the basis of their decision. Before their visit, all the necessary initiatives and actions were taken and we have also directed the Upper Assam Commissioner to investigate into the matter."
"The DGP Assam, both police and general administration are putting efforts to find the culprit, who will be given necessary punishment", he added.
