Satish Mathur takes charge as Maharashtra DGP

Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Satish Mathur on Sunday took charge as the new Director General of Police (DGP) of Maharashtra.

He was formally handed over the charge by outgoing DGP Praveen Dixit at a formal ceremony in Mumbai.

Mathur, a St Stephen's alumni, is the first IPS officer in the country to be trained by the National Security Guard (NSG).

A 1981 batch officer, Mathur has served with the CBI during the 1993 serial blasts trial and also as the DCP in Pune.

Mathur has also served as Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) in Mumbai and as ADG (Establishments), Maharashtra, before being appointed Commissioner of Police in Pune.
