Saudi Arabian critics have shown mixed reactions over a prominent religious scholar gifting women in the media.
Mohammad Al Arefi offered gifts, which included a box that contained a copy of the Quran, a set of lectures and a bottle of perfume, to 100 actors, singers and radio hosts, the Gulf News reports.
Critics raised the question that why Al Arefi dealt with women who do not cover their heads, knowing that religious scholars in Saudi Arabia are very particular about it, the report added.
Another person tweeted that Al Arefi seemed to prefer to deal with famous people, and not people like Syrian children suffering from cold and hunger.
However, his supporters said that the gifts were a positive expression of open communication guided by good intentions.
