SC dismisses plea to make yoga compulsory in schools

The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed a plea to make yoga compulsory in schools from class 1 to 8 across the country.

The Public Interest litigation (PIL) was filed by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ashwini Upadhyay, who moved the apex court seeking to make yoga compulsory from standard 1 to 8 across the country.

Upadhyay in his PIL has said as per Article 21, right to health is an integral part of right to life and as per that Yoga should be made compulsory in schools.
