The Supreme Court on Friday gave interim protection to Rajya Sabha MP Sasikala Pushpa and her family members for six weeks in a sexual harassment case lodged by her maid.

The expelled AIADMK MP had on Wednesday moved the apex court challenging the summons issued by the Madras High Court's Madurai Bench to respond to an allegation of fraud while filing an anticipatory bail application in a case registered by the Thoothukudi Police against her and her family members for allegedly ill-treating and sexually abusing two domestic aides.

The High Court had directed Pushpa to appear before the court on August 29 and explain how she could have signed a 'vakalat' in Madurai on August 17.

Sasikala, her husband Lingeswara Thilagam and son Pradeep Raja apprehended arrest after her former housemaid Banumathi filed a complaint at the all-woman Police Station in Pudukottai, Tuticorin district.

The trio approached the Delhi High Court, which directed police not to arrest them till August 22.
