The Supreme Court on Friday stayed a Jammu and Kashmir High Court order permitting cinema patrons to carry their own eatables into theatres.
The Apex court's decision comes after a petition was filed by the lawyers representing Multiplex Association of India, challenging the Jammu and Kashmir High Court order of July.
The lawyers had argued that there are security issues involved when food articles are being allowed inside the theatre complex.
In July, the Jammu and Kashmir High Court had instructed cinema halls of the state not to prohibit cinemagoers from carrying their food and water inside the theatre.
In a similar matter, the Maharashtra government had in July announced that people would be allowed to carry food items from outside along with them in cinema halls and multiplexes in the state, starting August 1.
However, following protests by multiplex cinema owners, they withdrew their decision on a hearing in Bombay High Court on August 8 quoting similar security concerns.
