The Supreme Court has said that it will hear the Jammu and Kashmir Government's plea for an appropriate directive on the beef ban issue on October 5.

The beef ban in Jammu and Kashmir has pitted two benches of the state high court against each other, forcing the government to seek the intervention of the Supreme Court to ensure communal harmony is not disrupted by inconsistent judicial pronouncements.

The beef ban has reportedly triggered widespread anger, with Kashmir-based separatists calling for a shut down and for protests.

Fearing trouble during the recent Eid al-Adha (Feast of the Sacrifice) festivities, the state government had shut down internet services for three days. These services were resumed on Monday.
